Sleep Alone Tonight

I can lead myself to water

it don’t mean that I will drink

smoke and scribble all around me

dirty dishes in the sink

and I try so hard to feel right

wake up with the sun

I wanna sleep alone tonight

you told me all your troubles

hey I brought them to you

then I watched your face go cubist

drip off in sheets of blue

and I try so hard…

there’s nothing in the fields

the corn is on its knees

takes the crows a half a minute

to take what the hailstorm leaves

and I wish I had that fervour

here in my outstretched arms

I wanna sleep alone tonight

I’ll kiss you once and gently

then I’ll ask you to leave

I’ll kneel and kiss your precious hands

count the veins in the fallen leaf

and I try so hard…

I can lead myself to water

that don’t mean that I will drink
